Gary Chartier is Distinguished Professor of Law and Business Ethics and Associate Dean of the Zapara School of Business at La Sierra University. He is the author, co-author, editor, or co-editor of books including Christianity and the Nation-State (2023), Understanding Friendship (2022), and The Analogy of Love (2d ed. 2020). He has guested on broadcasts and podcasts including Stossel, Reason TV, and The Young Turks. After receiving a BA from La Sierra (1987, magna cum laude), he earned a PhD (1991) at the University of Cambridge, exploring theology, the philosophy of religion, ethics, Christian origins, and political theory. He graduated with a JD (2001, Order of the Coif) from UCLA, where was honored with the Pacht Award in Constitutional Law. The University of Cambridge presented him with an earned higher doctorate, an LLD, in 2015 for his work in legal philosophy.
